When IS A Retaining Wall A Landscape Must

A well-designed retaining wall addresses practical concerns. Like erosion control and stormwater runoff. By strategically holding back soil on sloped terrains. Retaining walls can prevent gradual wear and tear. Caused by water runoff to landscaping or structures. Retaining walls safeguard against erosion and preserve the landscape’s natural or man-made contours.

Maximizing Outdoor Living Space With Retaining Walls

More About The Featured Retaining Wall

The back of this house near Anderson, MO sits up against a small hill. All of the water runoff from the roof runs into a built-up gravel bed. The gravel used to be held in place by landscape timbers. Over the years the timbers began to rot and break down. The new cement block clad in the native stone retaining wall will last the life of the home with minimum upkeep.

The featured retaining wall project took eight tons of native stone and two pallets of concrete. It required one hundred and fifty cement blocks. One hundred and fifty 80lb bags of mortar. The result was a low retaining wall about two hundred and forty feet long. Finished the wall wrapped around most of the house.

Color Matching Existing Native Stone Landscaping

One of the hardest parts was finding enough native stone to match the existing rockwork. After we found a rock to closely match the existing stone. The long-time homeowners expanded the project to use all of the rock we could get sourced in. The wall got longer. The new rock wasn’t an exact match. The existing stone’s color and texture were slightly different. However, the original stone had been in place for over 30 years it was close.
